This weathered brick is a surviving piece of Iola history. Stamped “Union Brick Co. Vitrified. Iola, Kan’s,” it dates to the city’s industrial boom around the turn of the twentieth century, when Iola’s natural-gas industry fueled rapid growth and streets were paved with bricks like this one. Scarred by time but still carrying its maker’s name, it is a small, solid fragment of the town that helped build modern Iola, now home to The Drug Apostles.
